Hypnosis in Pain Management

Hypnosis has been well-studied both as a primary and supplemental treatment for a wide range of psychiatric and medical procedures. One area of particularly high interest in hypnotherapy is its application as an analgesic for both chronic and acute pain, especially as an alternative to current anesthetic and opioid analgesic therapy. This project will evaluate the use of hypnosis as a viable alternative for alleviating pain during knee and hip replacement surgeries (procedures common in populations particularly susceptible to hypnosis) as well as in other surgical procedures and for chronic pain conditions.
